From the archives...........What I learned this weekend...

March 15, 2011

From journaling............

What I learned this weekend….

I’m never alone.
All I ask for, I receive.
I’m always “on track.”
There’s magic everywhere - even if I don’t see it.
Someone’s always going to love me.
Someone’s always new to me.
There’s always a way out, through, and around!
Most of my fears don’t happen.
Most of my fears are unreal.
None of my fears are real.
There are lots of enemies to vanquish.
No one’s as happy as they seem.
All ways of sleeping are good.
Magic’s all in my believing.
Truth’s the best way, all ways.
No matter’s too big for me to tackle.
My mother’s always with me.
My arms are strong.
Most of my wishes are already here.
Telling myself the truth helps a lot.
There are plenty of options always.
If I’m alone, I’m always happy.
Thinking things out is a good way to be busy.
Watching the sunset’s a therapy.
My mind’s busier than my stomach.
Will I ever really “get” this life?
Many messages come for me.
The best way of recovering is to be alone, and with myself.

Spirit's gifts................

November 3, 2011

Spirit gifted me with a ten-day vacation, and I mistook it for a punishment, a trip to hell. If I didn’t know how great God forgives, I would be embarrassed. Somewhere along the way, though, I suspected that I was in the middle of a huge hug, an opportunity that I’d wished for, dreamed of, for years. And would revel in it for a while from time to time. Greatly.

I went and lay on the beach one day, for an hour, in the MIDDLE of the day! On a WEEKday! And I took yoga classes across the bridge several times. I went and walked on the beach and sat in meditation on Thursday. I watched all the past episodes of Parks and Recreation that I’d missed from Season Three. I got a pedicure and gave a massage.

And then my brain, my Beta brain (the thinker, analyzer, complainer, criticizer….) showed back up, reciting all its old verses of “What if….” and “OH, NO!” and “You’ll never….” and “You’ve gotta DO something”! “NOW!” And I was back in the fear, angst, disappointment, frustration, and downright depression that are side-effects of listening to it. It is the voice that reminds me to compare myself to others, recall and highlight past failures, and focus strictly on what is NOT. Huge crazy-making, for sure. There are ways around it, and sometimes I actually remember to use them and avoid the pain and damage that it can bring. As I had done earlier in the week. I had a great insight!

Of all the things that go right in my life, and all the things that show up as abundance, there is one that lingers and hovers that is about “not enough.” It is my finances, my “money issues.” And it is one tough booger who will not be dismissed easily. Or with force. It is just here for me, and as far as I can remember, always has been. No matter how much I work or don’t work, spend or don’t spend, budget, travel, scrimp, splurge, etc. (YOU get the idea!), I seem to come up short pretty much all the time. Never enough. Oh, there have been times when I was rolling in the dough (and loving it!), but those times always ended, and reverted back to struggle and lack. Believe me, I’ve done a ton of work around this, and still can’t seem to change the tide. SO I decided last week that that’s just part of my life now. Being angry about it hasn’t changed it. Working more, striving more, pushing more haven’t changed it. Worrying about it hasn’t changed it. Not worrying about it hasn’t changed it. So I decided to throw in the towel, accept what was and go on living life like it didn’t matter. Because clearly, it doesn’t. My finances have a mind of their own, and some sort of lesson for me to learn, but to date, I have not found what that is, so I decided to let it be. And the freedom and relief that I felt were huge! I felt like I’d just been let out of prison with a parting gift to boot! I spent two days just doing what I wanted to do. I went out to lunch at a real restaurant! I bought a new bra and a camera battery! I bought flowers, potting soil and a pot! Yes, I went crazy! J Pros in the business will tell you to do what you’d do if you were wealthy, with no money worries, and the brain will be tricked and thus begin to attract wealth your way. A natural law of the universe, power of attraction. So I went with it. And was having a great time. Not really magnetizing any big bucks my way, but really enjoying the experience of actually having what I wanted without the scrutinizing boss haranguing away at my head all the time. And feeling good about life in general. Imagine that!

And then, when I wasn’t on the lookout, the Beta brain took over. Was I in the shower and singing too loudly? Was there thunder outside that was really loud? Or was I just having too good a time, trusting too much in life and the goodness of the universe, that I will always have what I need and want? I dare think it to be the latter. For boom! There it was. The reminder that I hadn’t worked in FOUR days! Hadn’t generated any income or prospects of income that WHOLE time! WHAT was I THINKing!!!!????? It sideswiped me and took my breath away. I froze in fear and worry, believing its barreling voice and convincing arguments. I quit getting up at 5a to exercise and meditate. I counted all my money to make sure I had enough (or to remind myself that it WASN’T enough is more like it!). I went to work on more ideas of ways to start working more and bringing in income while the slow season for massage held on. Sometimes, this process can be invigorating and exciting, giving me a nudge toward the new and untried. And sometimes (more and more), it is just a reminder of how much work I do for so little return, and is exhausting. This is currently the feeling. I’m exhausted. Of pushing and trying, of just missing the boat, of not having what I need, and of always waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s discouraging, and all of that is what hit me a few days ago. It hit me hard, knocked me to my knees, and left me staggering without a hope in the world of reversing or resolving it. My body starting hurting. My right shoulder, overnight, developed a stabbing pain that didn’t allow me to move it much at all.

So rather than do what I WANTED to do, curl up in a ball in a dark room, in bed, I decided to go to a yoga class, and move my body, be among other people, and do my best to come out of my funk for a while. The cloud lifted a bit, and then I could feel the tears and the nausea moving around, shouting out for attention. Letting the tears come as they would, I just sat and cried, and then again, sat and breathed until the stabbing pain in my stomach subsided some. Finally, I had to just lie on the floor and close my eyes. It was in that place that a different voice came to me. The voice of ME, my spirit, my God self, I suppose. “You are TRYING so hard!! We are giving you gifts of freedom, yet you insist on hanging on to the past. You are holding on so tightly, that is why your shoulder is so sore. Let go! Let go! Surrender. That’s what it’s all about. Surrender.” Wow! It just made so much sense, and in that moment of hearing this great logic, I just let loose, bawled, and knew it was pure truth. My body relaxed, my heart relaxed, my mind relaxed! It was a terrific sensation, for sure. The part of me that committed to surrender lay there a while longer on the mat, while the thinking part of me was not sure what just happened and wanted to leap up, embarrassed for the diversion from the “normal” practice for the hour. Luckily, though, we both stayed there and let be what was. Within a few hours, my shoulder was nearly back to its usual fluid self. Amazing.

So I am still going in and out of the blues, uncertainty, fear, etc., but feel more and more that I AM being given a vacation to do whatever I want to do to make me happy, let my spirit be free and relaxed, and trust that I will have plenty to do very soon. That NOW is a time to live without worry, and to immerse myself in meditation and prayer, exercise, dance, and writing, so that my soul can see what is important to me and give me lots of it.

Hence, this writing. It frees the words from my mind, to allow something else to move through it and manifest in magical ways. It has taken me almost two weeks to sit and do this, despite the fact that I am writing articles, stories, observations, and antidotes all the time in my head. I love to write. It lets me bring life to the page, the page to the life that I live. I find it to be a most fascinating life, and one worth sharing. I dream of writing for a living, and hope that this is one of my ‘spirited action’ steps toward that goal. If I am to be a cheerleader for others to live their dreams, something else near and dear to my heart, then I must take the steps myself to do what I love, let it come easily, and allow what is next the space to unfold as it will. This is the stuff that magic is made of. And I do love the magic!! Like a ten-day vacation out of nowhere, no strings attached!!! J

Eleven font

November 8, 2011 (11/8/11)

In honor of all the elevens in this month, I’m changing my font size from twelve to eleven!

See? It IS easy to start writing! Just write about SOMEthing! ANYthing!!

And then I had to get up and get something to eat. And wash my face. Then check all my saved voicemails. And in a minute, I feel certain, make a phone call or two.

It’s SO hard to sit and write! I think of things I want to write about all the time! I even write the first couple of sentences or paragraphs in my head. Gee! Even in my head I get distracted! Wonder why I never write a whole article or story in my head. On a similar, but not really, note, sometimes in the middle of the night, I wake up, and am writing a poem in my mind. More like it’s writing, singing itself to me, and I think how cool and beautiful it is and want to write it down when I wake up. But, alas, I’m lulled back to sleep by it, and upon waking, can only remember the loveliness of its presence in my mind.

I love my dreams sometimes. SOMEtimes! Sometimes, they are crazy and frenetic and scary and ridiculous and unsettling. I wake up unnerved, feeling like I should be looking over my shoulder all day. I’m never sure what brought about these dreams, or if I’m supposed to glean some deep meaning for my life from them; mostly, I just ask the Dream Guardians to release me from their spell. I guess it works, because I’m still pretty sane. I guess.

The good dreams, though, are really good, when one of my cats or a friend will show up and hang out with me. Last week, I was REALLY missing my friend, Christopher, who died in 2000. As far as I can tell, I’ve had two soul mates in my life so far. One was Christopher, who was gay, and Sparky, who was a cat. Go figure. They are both gone (from Earth), and both show up in my dreams from time to time. As I was saying, I’d been really missing Christopher one day, and so called on him, told him I missed him, and hoped he was doing OK where he was. That night, he was in my dream!!! As usual, in the dream, at the time, I didn’t really “get” that it was him, or why it was so special, but I did remember hugging him, and at one point, feeling like he and I were becoming one person. Weird sensation, even for a dream!! The next day, when I remembered that I’d dreamed about him (rather, with him!), I was thrilled! It made me know that he can hear me and is with me all the time, and wants to see me as much as I want to see him! The same thing has happened with my cats, Zenith and Sparky. The weird thing is that sometimes, they will be in horrible shape - mangled, diseased, or nearly in shreds. I’m not sure why, because there are other times when they are fine, and I can actually pet them. Oh, what a feeling THAT is!!! For anyone who has lost a pet, you know how great it would be to be able to see them again, pet them, feel their presence. And so I think that it is totally possible.

I have a girlfriend who has periodic visits from her husband (who passed away nine years ago) in her dreams. Only with her, she knows at the time that it’s not a dream, but a prayer answered, a longing soothed, a chance to touch his face, hear his voice, and even see where it is he lives! They have entire conversations sometimes in her dreams. They hold hands and kiss, laugh and cry, talk of what was and what is now. I marvel at her gift and ability to discern fantasy from divinity. If there is a difference! J

I’m learning that the lines between worlds are more and more frail, that the space is less, and that the energies are a lot more alike than has been the case in the past. Dreams are sometimes just an extension of life here on earth. Speaking with the Divine brings nearly immediate results. And what used to seem like quirky circumstance, we know now, is not the case. That our prayers and thoughts are always heard, and that we are always supported and never alone. I am told that, when thinking of someone, whether with regret or joy, wonder or anger, to send them love and light. That they will receive it, perhaps even feel it right then. That when we do, WE are filled with more light, more love, and move even closer to Heaven, as it were, to become one with Divinity, in such a way that it is unmistakable.

A number of years ago, after knowing of this concept and practice, I was in my yard raking and pulling weeds one late afternoon. A good friend came to mind, and I just had the fondest feeling for her. Being in the sunshine, and knowing that she was working (and struggling for several weeks), I just mentally sent her the blast of love and sun’s warmth that I was feeling right then, and continued on with my yard work, not giving it another thought. (This thought, like every other one each of us has, was replaced by yet another 10,000 more!) The next day, we were talking about her recent job in the next town over. It had been a tough and long day the day before, but she mentioned that, strikingly, as she was driving home in the late afternoon, feeling weary and sad, she sensed something warm and positive around her. She said she sat up at the wheel, felt herself smiling, and suddenly felt completely different than a few minutes before. “I can’t really explain it; I just felt loved and warm. It was the best feeling!” Wow. It took me a minute to catch the connection, but when I did the math (so to speak), I realized that her sensation was happening at about the same time my thoughts of her were happening! It was so cool! Ever since then, I have believed in the power of thought, of prayer, of sending energy, light, and love, to those I know and those I don’t. Because I know that others do it for me, and provide me with a strength and hope that I didn’t have before. People that know me and people that don’t. And those that I can see and those that I cannot. It is a great sensation to know that I am never alone, and that if I keep my eyes open, I will see confirmation of it everywhere.

In the phone call from a friend at just the right time. In a group of pelicans flying overhead just as I look up. In a song on the radio that I’d been singing and wanting to hear. And in the words on a page that somehow, with a little help from me, seem to write themselves, letting what’s within shine outward.

Who would know what writing about the date could bring about? I guess it’s just about having the intention, and taking one step toward it. Yea!

Monarchs are here!

October 20, 2011

The monarch butterflies are here! They’re everywhere, and they are lovely! They’re not the standard yellow and black ones that I remember as a kid, but rather, a darker orange butterfly with smaller wings. Usually, I see them in pairs, which is a treat in its own right. As there are some great native wildflowers around right now, they are in their element, flitting about, dipping and dancing, full of energy and life.

My neighbor and her granddaughter looked up the Monarch, and found that the ones migrating through here are fourth generation! That the first three went through the whole series of pupae, larvae, etc., but lived only a short time, to finally produce this group that will fly to South America AND BACK within a year! That is some serious genetics!

They’ve been her for a couple of weeks now, with what seemed to be their peak last weekend. They were all over the place, in big numbers - I noticed a lot on the highway, dive bombing my car. I’m guessing those are not some that will be visiting South America.

It’s been a blessed treat to see so many of them, everywhere! Butterfly, in Indian Medicine, represents transformation and beauty. Two things I am glad to be living right now.

Life is Easier

October 18, 2011

Life for me continues to get easier. Electronics have helped, certainly. I don’t have to remember phone numbers anymore - they’re in my phone. Heck, I don’t even have to DIAL phone numbers anymore! Just push a couple of buttons. And the internet keeps getting faster and faster, so I can buy online (save on driving and hunting), write letters online, (save on postage and paper!), find people online (eliminate 411 cost and hassle), and pay bills online. At the gas pump, I don’t have to go inside and pay anymore. Just swipe my card right there at the pump. Same with self service at the grocery store. It’s all around me, and I am oh, so grateful! I love ease!

Another area where my life has gotten easier and better overall is in my work. And it is through this that I’ve had something of an epiphany. When I first moved here, it seemed that EVERYthing was difficult, hard, challenging! Nothing was going smoothly, and when something DID happen, it seemed to be contrary to my desires. For example, I could not find a job anywhere in the area. It was high season, should’ve been a breeze to find something, but NO. I’d taken all the credit and coursework for my FL massage license, but wasn’t sure how long it would take, and even then, if I could find work in the field. So I was looking for work in just about every field imaginable! I even checked out being the ice cream truck gal! And couldn’t get THAT!!!

What I did finally get was a waitress job. A half hour away. (I don’t like to drive.) (Unless it’s a road trip!) It was at a BBQ place. (I’m a vegetarian/vegan.) The money was way minimal. And the owner and manager were on my bu-- every day, all day, about something that I hadn’t done right. Wow. Like my self esteem wasn’t already low enough. But I learned a lot in the time I was there, was truly grateful for the opportunity it offered me, and now have a tremendous appreciation for waiters - especially good ones!

While I was there, my license came in, and I could start looking for massage work, which I did immediately. So my second job here was doing beachside massage. Surely, a step up. Financially, geographically, and energetically. I was more in my element and closer to home, was doing what I knew and loved, and had more control over my schedule. AND I had a boss that had a way of pushing my “not enough” buttons. Once again, I was reminded of what all I wasn’t, couldn’t and shouldn’t. There seemed no escaping it! So I suffered through that for a while until I couldn’t stand it anymore. I found my limit, found my voice, and found a new respect from my teacher and boss.

From there, I have had 3 other employers, and each time, each one has a better space, a clearer sense of themselves, a kinder disposition, and better pay! The good news is that where I am now, I am loved, respected, and encouraged. It is so wonderful!!! I love being there, working there, being reminded of all that I AM, and being supported by others who are positive and moving through their challenges with courage and love.

It makes me excited to know that something even better is unfolding, and that each time something happens that I don’t like or that feels contrary to what I really desire, it is only showing up so I can be clear on what I DON’T want, and change what I can to be more in alignment with what I DO want. Understanding this has let me view the challenges as more like gifts, and that is huge to me! The more that I know the difficult situations and people are only ways to get me to where I want to be, the more willing I am to face my fears and deal with what is in front of me with courage, enthusiasm, and the expectation of a positive outcome!!!

Morning on the Beach

September 28, 2011

“This is worth getting out of bed for!” The only other person on the beach this morning, walking past me, toward the upcoming pink-gold sun slipping slowly into the dim sky, with something of a glazed grin on his face. I could only agree with a similar stupor.

Indeed, the mornings on the beach, especially before the sun comes up, then watching it come up, along with all the flight life that awakens with it, ARE worth getting out of bed for! Now that the tourist season is pretty much over, the beaches are nearly empty in the mornings, with only a few seasoned locals, a couple of curiosity seekers, and an occasional jogger or two to join the ranks of pelicans and seagulls. Oh, and the sandpipers! They are a trip here! They are still jittery little guys, but are also curious enough to come up close to a human sitting still. Probably, my guess, in search of some morsel of food.

Feeding the birds is so much fun on the beach!!!! It’s a real show, and certainly an attention-getter! I took a bag of popcorn out a few mornings ago, and within about 5 seconds, had a crowd of no fewer than 50 seagulls around me. Squawking and flapping, jumping and pecking, the race was on!!!! The ones that really wanted to eat caught my thrown-in-the-air pieces mid-air. So cool!!! Then, the crowds moved upward!! They were swooping and dipping and diving right over my head, looking like a trained seagull act! One brown one would come flying straight toward my head, catch the popcorn, fly over my head, and circle back around for the next kernel. He did this again and again, and it was poetry in motion!! My neighbor told me that if you take food down often enough, they will spot you before you get on the beach, and greet you en masse! She seemed to speak from experience. Not sure I want to be THAT enthusiastic about feeding them……………

One of my favorite things about living by the ocean (’Gulf’) is the pelicans. And since I live so close to the water (gulf across the street, sound in my back yard), they fly by the house during the day and evening. It just really takes my breath away every time I see them!!! Sometimes they fly solo, oftentimes in pairs, and my favorite, in V formation!!!! During the tropical storms that came through over Labor Day weekend (THAT was an interesting four days!!!), I saw a few V’s of 12-20 pelicans at once, and oh, my gosh, what a sight to behold! They are really big birds, and so quiet in flight, so all their presence is in their size and their grace.
I looked up Pelican in Indian Medicine, and here’s what I found ~

Pelican people can rise to the top no matter what life throws at them,
no matter how weighed down they become with life’s trials and tribulations.
Emotional turmoil is often the weight in a Pelican person’s life.
Pelican teaches you how not to be overcome by your troubles,
but rather to rise above them.
Pelican shares nesting sites and food with others and
therefore teaches unselfishness.
Teamwork is key for a person with a Pelican totem.

Amen!

Blue water, blue skies

June 27, 2011

Storms rumbling to the right of me, lightning flashing on my left. And straight ahead, white clouds and blue skies. Hmmmm……………sounds a little symbolic, doesn’t it? I’ll take it as such.

After arriving here in Florida some three weeks ago, my mind has been in a spin, my stomach, in knots. No “real” job yet, no place of my own to live, and little income in fits and starts. These are worries and fears in my mind.

My reality? I was given a house to live in, rent free, for the first ten days I was here. Across the street from the beach, I might add. With a fenced-in yard (and lots of great hiding places) for my cat, a view of both (dripping orange and hot pink) sunrise and sunset, covered porch, and rockin’ AC! From there, I was invited to live with my friend and her family for as long as I need to get regular income. So I have an instant family, people who care about and for me, a home that’s two miles from the awesome beach, and a screened-in porch and yard for my cat. Oh, AND I got a part-time job as a waitress last week, which I really like so far!!!! It’s fun to do some things that I haven’t done before or in a long time! And earn some money in the meantime.

People have been calling me for long-distance readings, which I love doing (and receive payment for!). They are filled with tons of confirmation, light, and information from Spirit, and I love the connection that I have with new friends through these readings.

I have had time and opportunities to continue healing on many levels. (This, I suspect, is one of the biggest priorities right now, one of the biggest gifts, and one thing that I have been overlooking for what my brain and ego feel, instead, that I “should” be doing.)  I know in my heart of hearts, that the money will come, that I always have what I need, and that I will be, and AM successful.

So WHY am I anxious, nervous, and uneasy? I can only think that it is my old ways of dealing with change and new situations, showing up loud and clear, ready to be vanquished, dissolved, and replaced. Replaced by the trust and faith, peace and pleasure that life holds for me, and for all of us, right now. When I look at the weather, my health, my bank account, my list of friends, my refrigerator, my gas tank, my list of possibilities in life, and more, I see only good, abundance, joy, and comfort. I feel hope and gratitude. I smell rain and prosperity coming in. I hear encouragement and music. I taste new flavors and tears. (I love, and am now often reminded of the saying, “There is something magical in salt. It is in our tears and in the sea.”)
Life in the moment is all that I need, and really, everything that I have asked for at some point and at some level. And so to have what I have now, to just recognize what I have and enjoy it as much as I can, is what expands out into the Universe to bring me more of the same. Perhaps easier said than done, but certainly more easily understood now that I have written it!

I am thrilled to be here in Florida, living where I have dreamed of living for decades - by the ocean!!!!! (Well, it’s actually, I am reminded by those here, the GULF, but my heart loves it by any name!) If this dream can come true, then surely, other dreams are right behind, right? Guess I better get going, dream some more dreams. I’ll meet you on the other side of the rainbow!!!!

On Jan's back porch...

July 27, 2011

In one month, I’ll be 56. Today, I feel much older, less wise. Almost two months ago, I left Albuquerque and my dad and sisters, and headed to Destin, Florida, thrilled to be coming to live by the ocean (actually, here, it’s the Gulf, but I like the word Ocean better!), where I’ve dreamed of living for most of my adult life. Now I’m here, wondering what possessed me to just load up and come to where I knew only two people, had no work lined up, and no idea of where to live or what was available. I’ve been in struggle, fear, loneliness, and angst since I got here. Oh, there are days of contentment and of feeling certain that this is where I need to be, but a lot of what I thought would be, hasn’t been.

Interestingly, on the trip here, about 4 days on the road, nothing that I’d thought would happen (all worst-case scenarios) happened. Nearly everything went fine: my cat traveled really well, my bike stayed on the bike rack, the car ran great, I never got lost, hotel rooms were available (and cat friendly!), the AC worked (it was HOT in Texas!), and driving 8-10 hours a day was easy enough for me.

In the days and weeks before I left Albuquerque, I was in panic and fear most of the time. It was awful! I went to sleep in anxiety, and woke in the same state, worrying about all the things that wouldn‘t work out and that could go wrong. At some point, I suppose I surrendered, knowing that I WAS leaving, and that how it would turn out would be, well, how it turned out! My biggest concern was Angel, my cat, and she turned out to be true to her name - she rode well in the car, adapted to hotel rooms easily enough, and even took to being on a leash when she was outside. She never tried to run away or crawl under the furniture. She was great!

Now, I’m on the back porch at my friend’s house, on a dark and gloomy, rainy day, knowing that it’s time for me to go, to find my own place to live. Which has been Much easier said than done. After two weeks of answering newspaper ads, visiting Craiglist.org, dealing with realtors and rental agencies, driving around, asking friends of friends, and praying a lot, I am still coming up with nothing, nowhere feasible to move into. It’s more than a little disconcerting - my stomach has hurt for three days, and the feeling of hopelessness is showing up more and more on my doorstep. Well, on my friend’s doorstep! I don’t have one yet.

“This, too, shall pass.” I know.

I just got a job last week (yea!), four days after I received my FL massage license in the mail - with a business that does beachside massage (“I love my office!,” the owner often says….). It has rained the last 2 of 3 days, which means no work; there is rain in the forecast for the next 3 days. Ugh. SOMETHING is going on! There’s too much that’s not happening!. My forehead is feeling bruised from all the walls I’ve been hitting. Very strange. “There’s gotta be a pony in here somewhere!”

So I’m writing about it to get it out of my head, letting something else in the way of possibility take its place. I figure that with this much not happening, behind so much effort, either A) I am REALLY missing something, or B) something is brewing up ahead that is better than what I’ve been striving for. I once heard that God never says NO, but one of three other answers. 1) Not now 2) Not yet 3) Not this, something better.
I’ve been around long enough to know that anything can change in a minute! And that really, there is a reason for everything, whether I ever figure it out or not. So I am trying to not take this all too seriously or too personally, to focus on what I DO want, and know that I am supported and protected by those seen and unseen. And loved.

We are never alone.

July 20, 2011 -Relocated to Florida..................

It's been a wild year.  To say the least.  After living with my dad in Albuquerque for 11 months, I decided my work there was done, and my time for moving on had arrived.  It was time for me to really go where I've wanted to go for the better part of my life - the ocean!!  It has always just been a dream, too big to realize, something far off in never-never land, and somehow, for whatever reason, unattainable.  But my options were wide open, and I needed something positive and life-affirming after a really difficult year with my father.  My friend, Jan, lives in Destin, and told me to "come on out" and I took her up on her offer.

Got all my dad's affairs in order, cleared up what I needed to in Albuquerque, and once again, packed my car, and headed east to Florida.  My car and my cat did GREAT on the trip, exceeding my wildest expectations (which were actually low; I was really anxious about what might go wrong......).  It was the best thing I could have done.  I feel so at home here, and though I am still finding my way, keeping my head above water (so to speak!!) financially, and missing friendship, I know that this is where I am supposed to be.  It is SO beautiful!  There is water EVERYwhere!!!!

It has been frustrating, OH so frustrating, to find ways to earn income here.  Which is crazy, as there are literally millions of people that come here over the months of summer, and do pretty much nothing but spend money - lots of it.  I have filled out applications, typed up resumes, had interviews, passed out flyers, made cold calls, taken tests, etc., etc, since the day I got here, and all I have to show for it now is a waitress job (which is actually really fun!) that is part time.  It's all divine, and I'm taking it a day at a time, getting from it what I can, and giving in it what I can.  I think it's about really "finding my passion" and pursuing that.  Which, when I really know it, will not require pursuing at all, right?  It will just show up.................

So in the meantime, I am happy to be doing some awesome telephone, long-distance readings all around the US, which is DEFinitely a passion!!!  It is all unfolding as it should, and as it does, I get to be surrounded by waves, bridges, rain, boats, sand, and dripping pink sunrises and sunsets!!!!

Blessings to you for a splendid summer!!!

Finding what I need........

April 6, 2011

I'm surprised at how closely tied I feel to my computer.  It's been on the fritz for almost two weeks, and the frustrating part is that it kind of works, but then quits.  Just enough to keep me trying.  If I just leave it off and don't use it or think about it, I still live life, and still have what I need.  And then some. This is curious.
Life is curious.

I keep lots of paper and pens, notebooks and pencils around - in my purse, backpack, and car.  Lots of things written down that every now and then, I go back over and read.  One thing I saw yesterday was the lyric from a song on a Christian radio that I heard some weeks back.  I loved it, wrote it down......................

"We pour out our miseries,
God hears a melody.
Beautiful, the mess we are:
the honest cries, the broken heart,
are better than an alleluia, sometimes."

The melody was cool, too!

I also found this, written, probably, in a parking lot somewhere, with the music on.............

Hoping for deliverance
caught in the undertow -
Bad weather's moving in -
Heartache's scrambling for a way out.

Memorizing words of gratitude
in case I'm forgetful
on my way out.

Holy cow, the dairy's in my past.
No one's counting calories -
let the corn chips fall where they may.

Hopin' I'll open the checkbook and
find black therein.

Maybe wishing's not the right way out -
maybe wanting's not the first choice in decisions -\
making up ways to downshift on the
way -too-steep grade.
Nothing's holiding me back -
I just can't run any faster.

No one's any closer to the finish line
than anyone else.
We're taking steps towards our own lives -
nothing ventured, nothing gained.

That's it for now!!!!  Blessings to you!!!

Cool clouds............

April 3, 2011

You wanna see something cool?  Whenever there's a cirrus cloud right by the sun, block out the sun with your hand, and look up at the cloud through sunglasses.  There will likely be a blend of turquoise, hot pink, and green swirling around the cloud.  You can achieve much the same effect by looking at the sun through a pigeon or dove feather!

I took a pic of just this, through my sunglasses - gives you an idea, anyway.  Enjoy!!!

"Your wake-up call...."

April 1, 2011

It is so easy to feel like we don’t matter.
          That we’re not doing enough.
That we could disappear and no one would notice.
Ok, that last one’s a little extreme, but it’s probably safe to say that we’ve all felt like that at some time (I was going to write ‘at one time or another.’  Is that the same as “at sometime?”)

This week has been one of some freedom, release, and pure pleasure for me.  I had a place all to myself for a whole week.  I left dad’s house on Friday and will return tomorrow, Saturday.  I had a week of just me.  (Yeah, just me and my thoughts! J)  It was wonderful!!!  And interestingly, as much as I’d thought it would look like something of a vacation – sleeping in, watching some movies, writing, drawing – it was actually a really productive week that allowed me to push through some limits and open new doors. Aaahh!!   And so, as life is, just as I stepped over a few speed bumps, my voices of “Oh, no!!!  NOW what!?” started clamoring around, and I started feeling that cry of, “Why bother??  No one will 1) notice, 2) care, or (YIKES!) 3)WANT YOU.  (Ugh.  Having just discovered this as a predominant voice somewhere inside of me, my heart is sad!  AND now I know it’s there……)

So I was easily lured into the familiar conversation (No…..MONOlogue!) of “I don’t matter.”  This especially shows up with my commitment to writing and sharing it on my blog.  There seem to be so many things that get in the way of a decision / commitment.  I guess it’s safe to say that that’s a good way to tell if I’m committed to something – I see a lot of “stuff” show up that could easily keep me from it.  I guess our commitments want to see how serious we are, and in a way, test us and our resolve.

Between my computer getting a virus, me being in a strange tailspin most of the time, and my fear of putting my words out to be seen by others (ooh!  didn’t know THAT was there til just now…), I have let writing go by the wayside for many days in a row.  I figured, “Why bother?  Who really reads it anyway?”  Wow.  Not too productive.  So I grabbed my notebook and started writing down some ideas to get back on track to feel positive and to make a difference, doing something that I love.  Just then, the phone in my room rang.
10:42. I figured it was the front desk man reminding me of my noon checkout.
“Hello?”
Automated voice.
“This is your wake-up call.”
“What?!”  I hung up and just stood there for a few seconds, not sure exactly what just happened, then just cracked UP!!!  Is Life just hilarious or What?!

So now that I was awake (J), I went to the lobby and checked my email, and there in front of me was a long, beautiful letter from a friend in Tucson, telling me that she loves reading my blogs!  That the last one I wrote inspired her to tell the truth to some of her family members, in the way of letting them know what she needed from them.  AND she wanted to buy one of the drawings I’d done!  Wow.  When you least expect it.

What did I get from this?  That we DO matter, and even when we don’t know it, we are always touching someone in some way.  Everything that we do matters and is important.  That sometimes, we / I can be fortunate enough to hear the confirmation of our beliefs and hopes.

And that it is best if I write every day, whether I share it or not, whether I think it is of significance or not.  That what moves through my pen is not about me.  It is about moving Spirit energy, and doing what I love to do as an affirmation of what my gifts are.  In doing what I can do, I am open to finding more of what I can do that I don’t know yet.  I’m excited!   Thank you for caring, and for doing something that you love, even when you don’t think anyone else notices or cares.  YOU do, and that is what matters most!

Truth's deception

March 16, 2011

Having to tell the truth is hard. Telling the truth is harder still. AND the truth shall set you free

It did me, for a while. I used to think that telling the truth and facing my fears would send them off into never-never land, never to be seen again. As of late, however, my current theory (based on experience!) is that fear may leave, but it’s so mad to be gone, that it sends in its little warriors to just mess with me, to test my courage and conviction, my strength and stamina, and to see if I cave to what FEAR figured that it was all along - the boss!
(FEAR is an acronym for “False Evidence Appearing Real”…….)

Just this week, on Monday, I faced a huge fear (huge to me!) of deciding to really move from my dad’s house, of going out into the great unknown with seemingly few resources, of bailing on him when he needs help, and of facing his possible anger when I told him. It wasn’t the THAT I was moving that could set him off, but the WHY. It’s hard to tell a parent that they are emotionally draining and demanding, more than being too physically in need. It was for me, anyway.

 And I did it.

Telling him this seemingly simple decision or piece of information seemed to represent for me all the years
(50 some!) of holding back my truth and my feelings, for fear of being verbally insulted, assaulted and impuned. So it really felt great - to quit worrying and fearing, and just tell my truth, face my terror, and know that whatever the outcome, I would be OK.
Not being afraid of him anymore is pretty much a dragon slain.

The next day, yesterday, seemed to be really good. I felt calmer than I had in a long time; detached would be a fitting word. I made phone calls, filled out paperwork, and did reading that I’d put off for several weeks. My creativity was high, my energy was even and positive, and my faith in what is possible was renewed.

And then TODAY, the warriors came in, heavily armed and relentless.
Taking in all my paperwork for the second time to an accountant to do my taxes, I found that I STILL didn’t have everything that I needed, and would have to come back yet again. This, coupled with just another reminder, in black and white, of how much I don’t have financially, took me by the nape of the neck, and flung me headlong into a black funk. I could feel it coming for me, tried to run, but missed the mark. Those dam warriors!!! They are GOOD!
To try to get out of the spiraling funk, I decided to do something productive. Like look for somewhere to move. Called apartment managers, Craigslist ads, and people renting rooms. Could it GET any more depressing???!!!! Clearly not. Adding insult to injury is the phrase, I believe.
I’d had enough.

After saying a prayer to Archangel Michael (“Please help me, Please help me, Please help me!!”), I mustered up enough energy to get out of my own way and deal with one of dad’s dilemmas, make some phone calls, and write.
 This.
It may not necessarily be a way OUT, but it’s certainly a way Through.

My point, I guess, and I think I had one…………is that when I do face a fear, everything that had been hiding behind it also has a chance to come up and be aired. Those are the creatures that I was not aware of when dueling with the original FEAR, and even though they are just as cruel, harsh, and scary, I see now that they are just as illusionary, draining on my energy and creativity, and ready to be dispelled as their original namesake.
For this realization, I am most grateful! It lets me anticipate some fallout after dealing with fear and truth, and know that when it comes, it’s a goodsign!

Just writing this has given me a whole new outlook, burst of energy, and an honest-to-god smile! There’s got to be a pony in here some where!

Thank you for listening, for caring, and for slaying your own dragons, armed, perhaps, with nothing more than faith and a desire to be true to who you really are. That YOU is love!!! You have my support and love! Maria

Artwork and soulwork

March 13, 2011
Started cleaning out drawers, boxes, and my closet last week. (Amazing how fast I have settled in, spread out, and accumulated stuff!)  Time for movin' is near, it feels.

In the cleaning out, I saw my pastels, which I haven't used since I got here.  I had missed them!  So I went and got a drawing pad, and have had fun.  Especially since I think I had been waiting for the right time, enough space, yakkity, yakkity, and then just decided to DO IT.  Draw, express, release, relax, let go!  Some of the "drawings" express anger and frustration, others let me feel the peace and detail of life.  Here they are.

They are on 9 x 12 paper, and are available to you, for a love donation $!$!$!  Enjoy!!!

Winds of Change 3/10/11

March 10, 2011

The winds of change have been gale force these past several weeks. Days have blown one into the other, and when nighttime comes and I’ve made it through one more day intact, I am grateful, and then I pass out.

The aspirations I had of writing every day about my “adventures” or experiences have recently been replaced by a journal of all my dad’s daily antics. Um, I mean activities. Or lack thereof. The changes he was going through were so fast and dramatic, that I felt like I wanted to have something to look back on, to be able to note when a certain behavior or symptom or function became different, or disappeared altogether. The daily logs got longer and longer, with more and more detail, and finally, after nearly two months, I decided it was too much. That it ALL was too much. And then began the downward spiral. The energies that at one time felt helpful and positive became stagnant and hostile. I couldn’t seem to get out of my own way, I was tired all of the time, I couldn’t stand to be around my dad, was tired of doing for him all the time, and could only focus on what all was wrong and rotten.

Material for crazy-making. There were a few incidents that brought me to my knees, took me to meltdown and breakdown, and forced me to take action. The proverbial two-by-four, you might say, and it was much needed! I finally saw clearly, and mostly, admitted to myself, that I am NOT happy at all, quite the opposite, and that what I had deemed to be my responsibility really wasn’t at all. I am not responsible for my dad’s happiness or health. Ultimately, HE is.

It is said that anger is a great gift, a tool that gets us moving out of stuckness. In my case, it certainly was.

Things have since gotten both worse and better. I am facing some huge fears right now that have lingered way too long with me in my life, and are clearly ready to be transformed into something much more loving. Thank you for being with me on this journey, and know that you are with me in each struggle and victory, each breakdown and breakthrough, and each challenge and reward.

Hold tightly to your dreams. Know that they are coming true before you now. You are healed and loved.
We are all in this together. Love, love, Love, Maria

Haiku, love and the ocean

Humming, lost in waves,
mind and soul fly above me.
Ocean is my home.

Seagulls wink at me
Crabs pretend to hide from me.
I know I am home.

My heart opens fast
when coming to the ocean.
Waves remember me.

Aaahh, they're in my blood,
and call me home once again,
my loves, sea and sand.

From last week, catch up.......

February 10, 2011 - Ouside with Angel…..

Lazy or relaxed,
Surrendered or given up?
On the fence and uncertain.
I’m jut taking my time.
Am loving the lack of “must do.”
Sleeping a little later, laughing a lot more,
forgetting my “should” list a time or two.
Listening to wind in the trees, and to birds,
spending time looking up in the sky.
Thinking of people I love,
or don’t know,
sending them love on the fly.
On Angels’ wings, I find,
are tremendous grace, gifts, prayers answered,
and love.

My eyes spend more time now in rest,
being closed, looking up to the Powers above.
So I guess I’m okay,
because it feels like I am,
though my brain’s still saying
I may not be.
Guess I’ll take this as part of my lesson to listen to my soul -
my gut, my intuition
say that since only good’s been coming my way. I might as well enjoy the now,
keep creating more of the same.

Believe it to see it!!!

February 14, 2011

Something that I do weekly, for my soul, mind, and heart, is listen to the free conference call from The One Command.  Each week, there is a different topic, speaker, and series of commands, and each week, I find yet another way to bring my desired reality closer and closer to manifestation..  Some weeks, it comes roaring through the crowd in just a minute!  Great stuff!

So on the February 2 call, Kathryn Perry (a favorite!) talked about having some sort of symbol to look for, as an indicator that you're on the right path, so to speak.  She uses the numbers 1234, and sees them quite often, which lets her know that she's in the right place at the right time, and that things are in perfect order.  She then took us listeners through a bit of a meditation, in which she had us visualize a symbol of our own, something that may represent what we are striving for, something that has meaning to us.  Right away, I saw this big old dollar sign with lots of bling on it, which was kind of corny, but I went with it.  As the meditation went on, what came through clearly as a sign of what I really want was a heart.  I want love to be who I am, what I attract, how I feel, all the time.  So I decided on a heart.  It felt, and feels, right.  So we finished the meditation, some commands, the call, and I was on about my day, trusting that I'd see some hearts, and wondering how the sparkly dollar signs would show up.  Within an hour of gettting off the phone, I went outside, and on the back patio was melting snow in a heart shape, IN a heart shape!!  It made me laugh and cry simultaneously.  Rockin'!  The hearts continued all through the week - actually saw a heart cloud, didn't have my camera, darn, and a swirl of little weeds that surrounded a heart-shaped leaf.  VERY cool!! They are everywhere in nature; it's just that I was more aware of them, seeing them where I may not have before.  (There was even a piece of bread in the sink shaped like a heart!)

Which is what it's all about - just think of it, it comes into being.

A couple days later, I decided to go through a few things that I'd brought with me, and see if there was anything I could use here, or pass on, continuing to lighten my load.  Surprisingly, I found a bunch of stuff that I was not as attached to as when I left Tucson.  So I have half as much now as I did a few months ago.Yea! One little beautiful soapstone box was among the goodies, and when I opened it, I just sat and cried.  It about took my breath away.  It was a handful of gold glitter dollar signs!!  What a riot. Timing is everything, right?

I continue to ask for new symbols, and am seeing them often, too.  Latest?  same number double digits (11:44 on the clock, $22 sale price,  333 days remaining, etc.), and convertible cars.  Saw two yesterday, hadn't noticed any before in months!  It's just fun to see how much comes to fruition, AND I like that it signifies that I am, indeed, getting what I want and need, and am where I need to be.

Give it a try!  And if you want to listen to that particular call, others from weeks prior, or find out more info on listening to live calls, the address is theonecommand.blogspot.com - Enjoy!  and here's to briging to life your visions!    love, Maria

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr..eautiful!

February 2, 2011

It snowed here!  Started Monday afternoon, and by Tuesday afternoon, everything was like a winter wonderland!!  The streets were all quiet, the sky all white, and the air all cold!!!  I was the only one outside either on foot or by car, and the peace felt delightful.  The second day, winds came, taking the snow and bringing the super cold.  Now it's about 10 degrees and sunny. Snow's in drifts or ice.  Quite a winter surprise!  I hope you're warm wherever you are, and / or enjoying the winter as it expresses itself in your city!

Snow princess dancing?

Poetry vs. prose

January 20 or so, 2011

I’ve come to find myself
roaming and accessing
what’s most needed in the moment.

If all the winter weather were warmer,
we wouldn’t want it,
would we?

Most of our ideas are conceived in sleep-
Dreams install them in our wishes’ basement.

I’m crying now, yet again -
and sensing I’m the last to know why.
Showers, book reports, notes on a crime.
What savory bits are tugging
at my tear ducts?
Hapless, hopeless, hurting and hostile -
I’m going to go a different direction.

Home again, I’m lost.
Leaving here once more, I tend toward
being found.

January 28 Ah, peace!!!

January 28, 2011

There is so much that I have thought about to write about; I have written tons of stories and updates in my mind, but when I’m at the computer or with a notebook, it doesn’t come as easily. So I’m here now, and going to put down pieces of what has touched me in the last couple of weeks. It has been a tremendous several days!!!!!!

The few days after I got home from California were days of just wanting to sleep and be alone. I was pooped from all the holiday activity, expectation, emotion, and cold, and from the ensuing days of driving to, and visiting in, California. It seemed that a lot of healing on several layers was taking place, and I had spent a lot of time resisting it, running from it, and eventually, finally, bumping headlong into it!!!! You can run, but you cannot hide!! Yep, that.
So I slept as much as I could get away with, ate better than I had been eating, and decided to go to a class I’d seen advertised in a local spiritual magazine. The woman who leads it is a channel and a medium - someone who communicates with and hears from beings on “the other side” - and in the Monday evening class / gathering, channels and shares information and guidance that she hears from those that guide her. You gotta know, I was skeptical and unsure, and still willing to sit in for the hour, see what it was about. Within 5 minutes of her speaking and my being there, I felt very at home, comfortable, and moved by her sincerity, sweetness, and sense of humor. The hour went quickly, and I left feeling lighter and really happy.

Each week, I have returned, and each week, come home with some piece of information or insight that helps me each day throughout the week. The most recent was the 5 minute exercise of thinking of what I love, each morning, preferably, as that is when our energies are most open and fresh. I light a candle, say hello to my angels, pets, friends, whoever might be with me, and then I start thinking of and feeling what makes me happy. Man! The list gets longer and longer, and the 5 minutes turns into about an hour a day, all throughout the day. It is such a fun exercise! I find myself calling to mind the craziest things that I love, that I had never really put words to! Like how good it feels to burp, or to see someone laugh, or watch the sun come up over a mountain and through a bare tree. Or the smell of pizza, the feel of my cat’s fur, the wind on my skin on a warm day. SO much! Great exercise!!

Another “pearl“ from a few weeks ago, and about the time, incidentally, that all of my life as I have known it, started to change, for the better, was a message that she channeled from my Star Guide (it may sound strange, but I’ll tell you, it was some magical information that the gave!). The message that I really heard, along with some other beautiful, powerful, and affirming sentiments, was, “Ask us to show you your TRUE heart’s desires.” Wow. I’d never thought of that. So immediately, I did just that. And within a day, I think, I found a new prayer. What I had been asking for - a new, beautiful, peaceful place to live, now changed to something else. I heard the question (yes, I hear voices!! J ), “What do you want?” Without qualifications or deliberations over the right and perfect words and phrases, I simply stated, “I want to be happy where I am living now.” WOW!!!! It freaked me out how fast it came, and mostly, how my body PHYSICALLY responded. It’s like my body sighed, loosened, felt the peace immediately. It was so cool! And since then, life where I am has gotten better and better.

I decided to completely commit to being available to my dad, to take care of his needs and health as best I could, to be compassionate and caring, and to just make the most of the really good situation that I was in now. I have since started going to the gym more, walking and meditating every day, and taking classes that nourish my mind and my soul. And I still do all the laundry, cleaning, shopping, cooking, errands, driving, etc. etc., which is all stuff I love doing, being a Virgo and all, so it’s been a win-win situation. Ironically, the more time I spend with dad - more quality time now! - the more I seem to have for myself. Having finally gotten internet connection at the house has helped tremendously, too, in feeling more organized and in touch with the rest of the world.

So………..that’s it for now. Thanks for listening! J Happy February, and may all your dreams come true!!! Love, Maria

Thought for today and slippers in the snow......................

Good day to you!  Thinking of how much is going on these days with everyone, and how I miss the "Thought for the Day" calendar I've had for the past two years.  It helped, on many days, to give me a new perspective on things, a smile, or an idea to share with others.  In the meantime, until I can produce another one, I have been finding wisdom and inspiration where I can.

Here are a couple on dreams...............

"Many of our dreams will not come true - but others are waiting for us."

"Instead of trying to reshape the world to fit our dreams, we are better off using our strength to comfort one another."

"Broken dreams, and hopes unrealized should not be seen as emblems of shame or failure.  If anything, they are tokens of courage - we were brave enough to dream and to long for so much."

Keep on dreaming!

Cupful of rainbow!
